This Memoir Presents Cal Duke's "Life Lessons Learned" With a Touch of Humor...
Keep On Smilin' is Cal Duke's heartwarming memoir about his "Life & Adventures as a Road-Hog Publisher."
In the way of explanation, Cal spent the past four decades as an award-winning publisher, logging more than two million road miles while producing
541 full-color magazines for 68 diverse communities, primarily in Georgia and Alabama.
This is his first book and it is laced with humorous recollections about growing up in the South.
The book also covers the positive influence in his life of sports & music, his free-spirited high school & college days, experiences as a
teacher and coach, plus travel adventures.
He discusses in considerable detail how he created an innovative niche in the publishing business at the age of 29.
His life was not always a bed of roses.
He talks openly about growing up in a split family, coping with the heartbreak of raising an autistic daughter, going through a divorce, and surviving two recessions.
Cal believes he was able to survive and thrive with the help of a Higher Power, and by maintaining a positive attitude. |
According to Duke, "I'm also blessed beyond measure by having a smart, attractive and supportive wife, Patty. We reside on Saint Simons Island, Georgia, but we
also enjoy visiting our north Georgia mountain cabin at the base of the Appalachian Trail. We've had the good fortune of being able to travel extensively in
Europe and the Caribbean. So, this book also provides valuable travel hints, on-site photography, and poetry expressed in a love song which I wrote for Patty".
He continued, "It is my hope that our joy for life, traveling and our belief in faith and family will come shining through. I would like to think this is a book of substance,
with just the perfect pinch of humor injected along the way. As a unique added touch, at the end of each chapter, I list my "life lessons learned" from that specific chapter."
There are more than 60 photographic images of travel and family.
Paula Deen, the famous "queen of southern cuisine", and noted author and TV personality, graces the cover of the book, pictured with Cal and Patty. Paula and Cal are
friends who both graduated from Albany (Ga.) High School in 1965.
The book will be available on Amazon, and at select locations...Cal Duke is also available for presentations at civic clubs, business meetings, and literary functions.
